Hooping Attire

"So I see all these super hot ladies dancing around in practically nothing! Why do they dress that way!"

Well there are several different things to consider when getting ready to hoop.

The first thing to remember is that hula hoops are EXERCISE EQUIPMENT!
You don't get on the uneven bars in a pair of jeans(usually), you don't swim in a parka and you don't tap dance in sandals.

Rules to Obey!:

1. Anything slippery is NOT good! It makes the hoop slip right off of you.
2. Sleeves are also a big no, no. Sleeves get in the way when arm hooping, shoulder hooping, angle hooping. Your hoop will go flying off the bulk of the time. No good.
3. Most of the time you'll want to put up your hair. Long hair can get scooped up by the hoop and stop momentum. Hair is also slippery and slippery is bad. :)
4. Jewelry can be a hassle too. Necklaces can be just like hair, if they are too big they can get wrapped around the hoop and slow it down. Bulky rings can interfere with your grip on the hoop. And on a personal note if you have a spetum ring do not wear a chainmaille bracelet while hooping or you run the risk of getting your bracelet stuck on your nose ring and be stranded there for half an hour. :(
4. It's good to keep your knees free also, especially if your just learning how to hoop at the knees. If your knees are bare it's easier for the hoop to stick to you.
5. Tight fitting clothing is a good idea. The less material you have to deal with the better. It's also easier to see your body moving and focus on your curves!
6. Those fluffy leg warmer things...WHAT'S WITH THOSE? Okay, the fluffy legwarmers can be compared to the long skirts used in belly dancing. In belly dancing the long skirts are designed to distract from the feet and legs and attract attention to the midsection where all the action is happening! The fluffy legwarmers are meant to keep your knees free for knee hooping and also to distract from the odd foot placements that are often used in hooping. It takes a lot of practice to get footwork down but the fluffies tend to add to the overall presentation of a hoop routine.

I'll make a list of materials soon but I mostly wear a tight fitting cotton blend type skirt, or I opt for a bikini top. For bottoms I usually wear a little cotton skirt or a pair of short shorts, also cotton, or I will wear steatchy pants... Wal-Mart currently carries these in all types of colors and in two different lengths.
